How to take care of yourself?

Many a times, we tend to overlook the most important person in our lives in an attempt to please everyone else. We forget that we can only make others happy when that person is happy. We forget that we owe a lot to that person. We ought to take care of that person every second. The situation gets worsened when you are a new parent. Wondering who that person is? You guessed it right, that person is yourself.

Remember what they say before every flight,

“Wear your oxygen mask before helping others”

And this actually holds true for each and every situation of life. We can not only help others, but also make others happy, take care of others and much more only when we take proper care of ourselves. This post will help you understand what I mean by taking care of ourselves and how can we do that.

How to Take Care of Yourself:

  • Remind yourself about how amazing you are

The key to taking care of yourself is to remind yourself that you are an amazing person and that you are as important as anyone else in this whole world. And as everyone else, you need to be taken care of!

  • Take proper care of your health

There is an age-old saying-“In a healthy body resides a healthy mind”. So another very important step to taking care of yourself is to take care of health. For one who has health has everything! Now, if you are thinking how do you do that, here are some suggestions – try to fit some sot of workout in your daily routine be it exercising, or yoga, or walking – whatever you find time for. But do it. Even if it is for 5 minutes!

  • Have a healthy lifestyle

Now that you know how important your health is, start to improvise upon your lifestyle. What do I mean by that? I already said that you should start to take care of your health. What is this now? By having a healthy lifestyle, I mean that change your habits. If you tend to eat a lot of junk food, avoid that. If you do not maintain a proper hygiene, make it a routine. If you stay stationary at your desk all day, change it and try to take a quick walk. So anything that you think is not good for you, take a step to change it.

  • Pamper yourself every now and then

You might be thinking who does not love to be pampered. But you would say either of these two – nobody pampers me or I don’t have time for all that. But I am not going to buy that. Why you might think! Because I say pamper yourself every now and then.  If you still say no, read point#1 again.

  • Everyday, do something you really like-have some me time

Everyone gets some down time that we probably just waste thinking of doing something or the other. Use those buffer time slots for pampering yourself. Love listening to music-have it on when you work/drive/walk/bath-no extra time needed. Love listening to podcasts/TedTalks/News-do it when you walk. Love to watch TV, sneak some time out. Basically do what you want, and find time for it.

  • Don’t deprive yourself from sleep

Sleep is another very important factor that decides upon how well we are living and taking care of ourselves. It not only decides our health, but also our emotional well-being. If you think that you need an 8 hours sleep, then let nobody else decide for you how much sleep is good. You deserve it. Put your PJs on and off to bed.

  • Enjoy your weekends, don’t keep working

Well, well, well-I don’t know about you, but this is very very necessary. Remember – ” All work and No Play makes Jack a dull boy!”. It is important to unwind after a whole week of work. So stop running behind your long to-do list – it is never going to end anyway. Take some time out for enjoyment. Period.

  • Catch up with your friends

Friends hold a very special place in our lives as they are the lot of people who don’t judge you or expect a lot from you but are there for you when you need them. They are natural stress busters. They are the people who can uplift your mood in no time. So, find some out and catch up with your old friends. They will help you meet you old happening self that you might have forgotten now. So go ahead and text/call your old friends and meet them. You will not believe how good that feels.
